Your goal

Keep the Leader alive until every Assassin and Traitor is gone. You win or lose with the Leader, so your life total matters only as long as theirs does.

You win when

  • The Leader team wins: every Assassin and every Traitor has left the game while a Leader is still in it.

You lose when

  • The last Leader loses. You lose with them, even with life to spare.

Strategy

  • Your unveil is usually a defensive trick, and it is instant speed. Hold the mana for it on dangerous turns, especially when an opponent swings at the Leader.
  • Undercover means you can’t unveil until someone else has attacked the Leader or another non-Leader identity has been revealed. Count on the first threat getting through before you can answer.
  • Don’t unveil just to be trusted. Once you are face up, every Assassin knows which player to remove first.
  • Protect the Leader’s life total, not their board. A Leader with no creatures can still win; a dead Leader can’t.
  • Keep the Traitor in mind. They may help you early, but they need the Leader dead in the end.
  • You can attack the Leader yourself to unlock Undercover for other Guardians. Risky, but sometimes exactly right.

How to bluff

  • Act like an Assassin who hasn’t made up their mind. It keeps the real Assassins guessing about how many enemies they face.
  • Pressure players who look like Assassins without tipping your hand. Attacks speak louder than claims.
  • If you must claim Guardian, do it when it helps the Leader make a decision, not when it makes you feel safer.

What to watch for

  • The turn an Assassin unveils. Many Assassin effects only work on their own turn, so their main phase is when your answer matters most.
  • Board wipes and big attacks aimed at the Leader. Those are what your unveil exists for.
  • Players who “help” the Leader only against the Assassins. That is probably the Traitor.
  • Your own life total, but only as far as staying alive lets you keep protecting.
